A2O LITE have made Melon history before most listeners even learned their names. The rookie girl group produced by Lee Soo-man topped the Melon TOP100 with debut single “NEON” roughly 29 hours after its release — the fastest debut-song climb to No. 1 since the chart’s revamp in August 2021.
According to TV Report, “NEON” sat at No. 1 on the TOP100 as of 11 p.m. on October 14. The single was released at 6 p.m. the previous day, October 13, putting the climb at about 29 hours. It rose one spot, displacing Soyeon’s “퇴사할게여,” which fell to No. 2.
The song’s rise was steep from the start. It entered the TOP100 at No. 77 at 10 p.m. on release day, jumped to No. 10 by 9 a.m. the next morning while also reaching No. 2 on the HOT100, then held No. 2 through the 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. charts before finally taking the top spot at 11 p.m.
TV Report noted that the current TOP100 is calculated hourly from the last 24 hours and the last hour of usage combined — a system that makes it hard to reach No. 1 on concentrated listening alone, and one not directly comparable with the old real-time chart. At the group’s debut showcase on October 12, producer Lee Soo-man said he hoped people would first feel that the music “is good” before asking “what’s different” about it.
The previous fastest rookie debut-song record belonged to ALLDAY PROJECT, whose “FAMOUS” took three days to reach No. 1 in June 2025. NewJeans needed eight days with “Attention” in 2022, while ILLIT’s “Magnetic” topped the chart within two weeks of its March 2024 release — both far slower than A2O LITE’s 29-hour run.
A2O LITE will perform on Mnet’s “M Countdown” on October 15, their first music-show stage since debut, as attention on the rookie group keeps building.
