Jang Gyuri Opens up on Leaving fromis_9 for Acting Career, Four Years Later cover

Former fromis_9 member Jang Gyuri has spoken candidly for the first time in four years about why she walked away from idol life, admitting she felt she was “causing problems” while trying to juggle both careers.

According to Newsen, Jang met the outlet on September 30 at Namoo Actors’ office in Gangnam, Seoul, for a wrap-up interview marking the end of her tvN drama ‘Four Hands.’

Looking back at her final months with the group, Jang said she had dreamed of acting since high school but realized multitasking did not suit her. At the time, she was preparing a fan meeting, an album, and filming SBS’s ‘Cheer Up’ all at once. “I clearly felt it then. I thought I might be causing harm everywhere,” she said.

“Adjusting schedules was difficult, and the members also had times when they had to keep practicing on their own,” she added. “I thought it would be better to focus on just one thing. I get along well with all the members now.”

Jang wrapped up her fromis_9 activities in July 2022 and made her terrestrial TV debut with ‘Cheer Up’ that October, going on to appear in ‘Player 2: Master of Swindlers’ and ‘When the Phone Rings.’

The biggest change since going solo, she said, is having to take full responsibility alone. She also credited ‘Four Hands’ with helping her grow as an actress, noting that viewers called her warm-hearted character Hong Jae-in the drama’s “only breather.”
