Noel’s Kang Kyun Sung has announced he will marry actress Yoo Ha Jin, who is 14 years his junior, on October 30 — revealing on the October 14 episode of MBC’s “Radio Star” that the couple has chosen to wait until marriage for physical intimacy.
According to NewsEn’s report of the broadcast (episode 985), Kang appeared alongside Park Jun Geum, Kim Young Chul, and Ham Eun Jung, and opened up about his relationship for the first time on air.
The couple’s love story goes back nine years: they briefly dated when he was 37 and she was 23, but he cut contact feeling guilty about the 14-year age gap. Nine years later, a mutual acquaintance tried to set him up with “a good person” — and it turned out to be the same woman. She initially declined, saying they already knew each other, but agreed to a meal since they were acquaintances. The conversation went so well they started dating in mid-February, reaching marriage in just eight months.
On what sealed his decision, Kang said he used to look for someone who fit his life, but with Yoo Ha Jin he felt they could “grow together” and that she made him want to let go of his own stubbornness. Addressing his well-known premarital purity pledge, he said: “Many people hear how fast we set the wedding date and ask if it’s a shotgun wedding. We have no experience. We have not been intimate with each other.”
Kang stressed the choice was mutual — “She shares my thinking; it’s not like she’s forcing herself because of me” — and admitted he had failed to keep the pledge in the past, saying he feels ashamed of his old self. Joking about the rushed timeline, MC Kim Gu Ra quipped, “So that’s why you’re getting married so fast,” while Jang Do Yeon added that holding out must have been sweet.
The wedding is set for 7 p.m. on October 30, a time Kang said was deliberately chosen so the couple could rest and celebrate properly instead of being exhausted; they will stay at a hotel that night and plan the honeymoon trip later. He also joked about his fiancee’s recent worry — “She’s been worried, like, what if something’s wrong with me” — saying he will just have to prove otherwise soon.
