History was made on SBS’s “Our Ballad 2” this week. For the first time across both seasons of the show, a contestant earned a perfect score: 15-year-old Park Ye-seung took all 150 votes on the October 12 broadcast.
According to a report from NewsEN, the milestone came during round one of the “Songs That Made Me Cry” theme on the show’s second episode. Park performed Maya’s “Cry Out to Me” and received a standing ovation before the votes were tallied.
Her backstory made the moment land even harder. Park was born in Daegu and lived there through middle school before moving to Seoul alone six months ago to study singing properly. Her parents initially opposed the move, but she won the grand prize at an arts high school vocal contest in Seoul and convinced them to let her live on her own.
The judges’ reactions said everything. Joo Woo-jae declared her “the only” winner candidate when host Jeon Hyun-moo asked, while Cha Tae-hyun praised the move to Seoul and Roy Kim called her a rare “well-balanced power vocal.” Jung Jae-hyung admitted to crying during the performance, saying he teared up hearing such passion from someone so young.
No official statement was available beyond the broadcast. Park told the show she chose the song to repay her parents’ trust, since moving to Seoul was her decision.
With the first perfect score in the show’s history, Park has set the bar for every contestant who follows. Jeon Hyun-moo told her the record will not be easy to break.
