Netflix’s upcoming mystery-horror series “Dead-End Job” is stacking its nightmare with star power: Choi Hyun-wook, Yoon Kyung-ho, Yoon Byung-hee, and Jo Hyun-chul will all make special appearances in the eight-episode drama, which premieres October 30.

According to MHN Sports’ October 18 report, the four actors play the unsettling strangers Hyeok Jun encounters at each of his increasingly dangerous part-time job sites. Production has kept their exact roles under wraps until the premiere. The cameo lineup was first announced in early October, when production also unveiled character posters for the four leads: Lee Jae-wook as Hyeok Jun, Go Min-si as Yeon Ju, Kim Min-ha as Ji Yun, and Lee Hee-joon as the head of the Spider Staffing Agency, per Wikitree.

Fresh trailer and poster material tease what Hyeok Jun is walking into. The new poster shows him bloodied and exhausted, slumped in a messy room, with the tagline: “Minimum wage times 50 guaranteed — will you accept this sweet part-time job?” In the trailer, the debt-ridden Hyeok Jun takes a job through the shady Spider Staffing Agency, whose boss asks him, “Where would you find a sweeter gig than this?” He then faces a swarm of moths at a late-night convenience store and an unidentified clown. Each completed job raises his pay — high reward, high risk — and pulls him toward ever more dangerous worksites. Netflix bills the series as a mystery-horror fantasy built on a painfully relatable premise: a “livelihood horror” about surviving gig work.

The drama comes from creator and showrunner Han Jun-hee, the filmmaker behind “D.P.” and “Weak Hero,” directed by Kim Da-min and written by Kyung Min-sun and Lee Shin-ji.

The special-appearance casting leans on existing relationships. Choi Hyun-wook previously worked with Han Jun-hee on “Weak Hero” and “D.P.,” and Jo Hyun-chul also collaborated with Han on “D.P.” Choi, known for “Twinkling Watermelon” and “Twenty-Five Twenty-One,” takes on an against-type horror role. Jo’s film “You and I” won him Best New Director and Best Screenplay at the 2024 Blue Dragon Film Awards. Yoon Kyung-ho, whose credits include “The Trauma Code,” and Yoon Byung-hee of “Mr. Sunshine” and “Our Blues” round out the lineup.

“Dead-End Job” premieres October 30 on Netflix. With its main cast now backed by a heavyweight cameo roster and a trailer leaning hard into its 50-times-minimum-wage hook, the series is positioning itself as one of the platform’s headline Korean originals for the fall season.
