Comedian Couple Lim La-ra and Son Min-su Donate ₩20 Million to Pediatric Patients After Lavish Birthday Party Draws Criticism cover

Comedian couple Lim La-ra and Son Min-su, the YouTube duo known as Enjoy Couple, donated ₩20 million to cover treatment costs for pediatric patients at Gangnam Severance Hospital, announcing the gift on October 14 to mark the first birthday of their twins, Kangi and Dani.

Lim shared the news through the couple’s official social media on Tuesday, posting a photo of the donation certificate alongside a heartfelt letter. According to the certificate, the ₩20 million will go toward treatment for children in the hospital’s pediatrics and adolescent department, aimed at families struggling with medical bills.

The timing of the announcement drew extra attention because it came just ten days after the couple’s lavish first-birthday party for the twins. The October 4 celebration, held in Seoul’s Gangnam district, reportedly involved a 45-person filming crew alone, and the scale of the event split public opinion: some saw it as fitting for a famous creator couple, while others questioned whether a dol-janchi, the traditional Korean first-birthday party, needed to be quite so grand.

Lim addressed the backlash in a YouTube video released October 11, explaining that she had worried about making too much of a fuss at a time when many parents skip the ceremony altogether. “Because of the nature of our work, we do broadcasts together, so it got bigger,” she said, adding, “If you could think of it kindly, as a twin mom who almost died making a fuss after surviving, I’d be grateful.”

She was referring to the severe bleeding she suffered while giving birth to the twins last year, a life-threatening ordeal she has spoken about openly. That experience, she said in Tuesday’s announcement, shaped the couple’s decision to give. “Since meeting Kangi and Dani, our world has changed so much,” she wrote. “I myself went through life-threatening bleeding after childbirth, and it made me pay closer attention to the pain and desperation of others.”

She added, “I wanted to share that feeling, even just a little, so we sponsored treatment for children in need at Severance’s pediatrics department. I hope our hearts reach those children and families as warm comfort and support.” She closed the letter with a promise: “We will keep living as the Enjoy family that shares the love we receive.”

Lim and Son dated for ten years before marrying in 2023, and they welcomed their twins last October. The couple regularly shares their parenting life on their YouTube channel Enjoy Couple, which has made them one of Korea’s most-followed parenting creators.

The donation marks a quieter, second celebration of the twins’ first birthday, ten days after the party that put the couple under the spotlight.
