god vocalist Son Ho-young has returned with new music, marking two decades since his solo debut.
In a recent interview with Kukmin Ilbo, the 46-year-old singer reflected on his solo career after releasing “Go Around” on October 14 — his first single in five years since 2021’s “흘러가는 시간 속에서.”
Son made his solo debut with the album “Yes” in 2006, following god’s 2005 hiatus, after rising to fame with the group still known as the “national group” of K-pop. Speaking at Gemstone E&M’s headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul, he offered a candid self-assessment of his early solo years. “I think I was a bit arrogant at first,” he said, admitting he had sung “pleasant songs” rather than searching for his own musical identity. “As a solo singer, I’m still twenty,” he added. “I think I have to keep going from here. It’s just the beginning.”
“Go Around” carries Son’s signature message of comfort — that sometimes it is okay to go around an obstacle instead of colliding head-on. “The phrase I say the most is ‘it’s okay,’” he said. “I wanted to say that things will be fine with time, and that everything is not necessarily bad.”
The new song will debut live at his solo concert “Horizon,” set for October 31 and November 1 at KBS Arena in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. “I want to hear fans say, ‘I’m glad I waited so long, it’s great,’” he said.
Son also confirmed that god will not hold a year-end concert this year due to scheduling conflicts, but promised a new god song in three years for the group’s 30th anniversary. He called fellow members Park Jun-hyung, Yoon Kye-sang, Ahn Denny, and Kim Tae-woo “brothers and family,” and credited fans for his longevity: “My current position isn’t something I made. I’ve endured thanks to my fans.”
