Park Jinyoung is stepping into Korea’s Japanese occupation era for his next role, and he says the story is one everyone should know.
In a new interview shared by Soompi, the GOT7 member talked about his upcoming tvN drama “100 Days of Deception,” a period spy romance set across 100 days during the Japanese occupation of Korea. The series is directed by Yoo In Shik, known for “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and the “Dr. Romantic” series.
The drama centers on Lee Ga Kyeong, played by Kim You Jung, the top pickpocket in Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul) who becomes an undercover spy for the independence movement. She infiltrates the Japanese Government-General of Korea, where she becomes entangled with interpreter Kim Tae Woong, played by Park Jinyoung, who also goes by the name Sato Hideo. The cast also includes Jin Sun Kyu as Sato Shinichi, the Inspector-General of Korea and second-highest-ranking official in the administration.
Park Jinyoung said the drama’s strength lies in how the emotions and stories of each character connect like a spiderweb within their era, and that reading the script made him feel how important it is to know the past while living in the present.
He described the project as a way to indirectly experience a past that viewers never personally lived through, and asked audiences to give it lots of love.
“100 Days of Deception” premieres October 10 at 9:10 p.m. KST, with a preview of the first episode already released.
