IVE's 'Looks Can Kill' Music Video Hits No. 1 on YouTube's Worldwide Trending Chart Ahead of October 26 Comeback cover

IVE has proven its global pulling power once again. The six-member girl group’s pre-released title track “Looks Can Kill” shot to No. 1 on YouTube’s worldwide music video trending chart immediately after its release on October 19, agency Starship Entertainment announced on October 20.

The music video also claimed the top spot in six countries and regions — South Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Canada and Brazil — and entered the top 10 in 18 countries and regions in total, including the United States, Germany and Australia. As of 9 a.m. KST on October 20, it had charted in 34 countries and regions overall, confirming the scale of global attention on the comeback.

The video borrows the grammar of hero films, moving between the inside and outside of a film set with striking visual effects. It expands the meaning from “IVE playing heroes” to “IVE being heroes themselves,” sharply embodying the new album’s concept. The electronic dance-pop track pairs a synth pad rhythm with heavy bass and dynamic drums, carrying IVE’s signature confidence and initiative. Its lyrics deliver the message that anyone can be the protagonist and hero of their own life, while the final chorus explodes after the bridge for maximum immersion.

“The music video for ‘Looks Can Kill’ — the title track from their fifth mini album, which was pre-released on the 19th — topped YouTube’s worldwide trending music video chart immediately upon its release,” Starship Entertainment said in its announcement.

The same-name mini album “Looks Can Kill,” out October 26, introduces “Girl Hero” as a new alter ego following the group’s Cupid and magical-girl personas. The spin-off project continues to expand the “self-confidence” narrative the group has explored since its debut. IVE — An Yu-jin, Gaeul, Rei, Jang Won-young, Liz and Leeseo — premiered the “Looks Can Kill” stage at the Spotify DIVE ACADEMY live stage at Ark Gangnam in Seoul on October 19, one day before the trending figures were announced.

With the full mini album dropping on October 26, the early chart performance signals a strong start to the comeback. Fans are now watching to see whether the title track can extend its run across global charts in the week ahead.
