JYP Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against DIY music distributor OneSync Music, accusing the company of uploading a pirated version of a solo track by Stray Kids member HAN to streaming services and profiting from it.
Billboard reported on November 6 that the lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, November 4. At the center of the case is “back to life,” a solo track by HAN that JYP Entertainment first released on YouTube through a prerelease music video in May.
According to the lawsuit, obtained by Billboard, the song appeared on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube just days after that prerelease, listed under the artist profile “yungzzz” and stripped of JYP Entertainment’s copyright management data. JYP Entertainment traced the upload through YouTube metadata to Hitmaker Music Group, an independent distributor partnered with Warner’s Atlantic Records and 10K Projects. Hitmaker’s lawyers then identified Miles Gaines as the owner of the “yungzzz” distribution account.
Gaines, a Los Angeles-based rapper, is the founder of OneSync, a DIY distributor that launched this year. The lawsuit alleges that Gaines and OneSync knew they “did not author, create, perform on, or own the sound recording, and knew that they had unlawfully reproduced it from JYPE’s prerelease.” Hitmaker Music Group is not accused of any wrongdoing in the case.
JYP Entertainment is seeking financial damages for copyright infringement and violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which makes it illegal to remove authorship watermarks from music. In a statement to Billboard, Gaines said he was unaware of the upload. “I was unaware of the upload, and the recording has since been removed,” he said. “We are reviewing the underlying account and submission records to better understand how this occurred.”
Gaines added that OneSync “takes copyright protection and the rights of artists and copyright holders seriously” and said the company’s distribution operations include multiple copyright review and screening measures designed to identify potentially unauthorized content. He said OneSync will “cooperate through the appropriate legal process.”
The case highlights a recurring vulnerability for K-pop labels: prerelease material posted on YouTube can be copied and monetized on streaming platforms before an official release. HAN is a member of Stray Kids, one of JYP Entertainment’s flagship acts, and the group performed at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York in June 2026. Billboard did not report a damages figure or a court date.
