Kim Hyun Joo Says 14-Day Filming Helped Her Fully Focus on Psychological Thriller 'Paradise' at BIFF 2026 cover

At the 31st Busan International Film Festival on October 10, Kim Hyun Joo revealed that her upcoming psychological thriller “Paradise” (“Sil Nakwon”) wrapped its entire shoot in just 14 sessions.

The film was invited to BIFF’s Gala Presentation section, and Kim spoke at a press conference held at the BIFF Hill press room in the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae, according to Xports News.

“Paradise” follows Ryu So-young (Kim Hyun Joo), a mother who lost her son in a camping school bus disappearance nine years ago. Her story begins when Ryu Seon-woo (Bae Hyun Sung), her son she believed dead, miraculously returns alive. The film opens in theaters on October 21.

Kim said many people asked how they managed such a tight schedule, but the pace actually helped. “It let me concentrate even more intensely and stay immersed,” she said. She added that the role required carrying psychologically unstable emotions all the way to the end, and shooting every day helped her fully express Ryu So-young.

This year’s BIFF, which opened on October 6, runs through October 15, screening 316 films from 59 countries across 31 screens in eight theaters, including 69 Community BIFF titles.

With just days until its October 21 release, the film’s unusually fast 14-day shoot is quickly becoming one of its main talking points.
