Actress Kim Jung Hwa has shared a new update on her husband Yoo Eun Sung’s health, saying his brain tumor remains stable three years after it was first discovered and that he has so far avoided surgery.
The update came in a video posted on October 28 to the YouTube channel Real Actresses, in which fellow actresses Kim Young Ran, Lee Kyung Jin, and Ahn So Young visited the cafe run by Kim Jung Hwa in Incheon’s Chinatown. During a candid conversation, Lee Kyung Jin spoke about how battling a serious illness changed her outlook, saying she had let go of a life spent comparing herself to others and found peace of mind. Kim Jung Hwa related to that feeling and turned to her husband’s own health journey.
“My husband is young, too, but a brain tumor was found three years ago,” Kim Jung Hwa said in the video, as reported by TenAsia. “For now, it is just being maintained. They say surgery would be a dangerous situation. So I have been living and praying only that he does not have to undergo surgery. He still has not had surgery and is doing well. He looks fine, too, and we are doing well together.”
Ahn So Young responded warmly to the update, saying, “So that is how you are living such a beautiful life.” Kim Jung Hwa said she now lives each day with a grateful heart, describing her daily prayer as, “Thank you for extending our family’s life for today.” The exchange was also covered by Sports Chosun, which reported the same remarks from the video.
Yoo Eun Sung was diagnosed with a low-grade glioma in February 2023, according to TenAsia. At the time, the tumor had not changed much in size, so doctors opted to hold off on surgery and monitor its progress instead. In August, Kim Jung Hwa said the tumor’s growth had stopped, and doctors advised that no immediate treatment was needed. The latest update continues that watchful course: the tumor is being maintained, surgery remains off the table, and the couple is carrying on with daily life.
The health update is the latest chapter in a story the couple has shared openly over the years. In an earlier appearance this year, Yoo Eun Sung described his condition as a slow-growing glioma in the frontal lobe area and said doctors had told him the tumor had stopped growing, with a follow-up planned years down the line rather than immediate treatment. Kim Jung Hwa has previously described the experience as living with something quiet in her husband’s head, a source of ongoing worry that makes each stable checkup feel like a gift.
Yoo Eun Sung is a CCM singer, and the couple’s openness about his illness has drawn public sympathy since they first disclosed it. In the same Real Actresses video, Kim Jung Hwa reflected on how much she herself has changed, saying she used to be shy but became more comfortable after having a son, getting married, and passing 40. She also spoke about how sponsoring children changed her outlook, saying she used to feel anxious about what she did not have and now lives with a different sense of gratitude.
Kim Jung Hwa and Yoo Eun Sung married in 2013 and have two sons together. Beyond her acting career, Kim Jung Hwa currently runs a cafe brand headquartered in Incheon’s Chinatown, the same neighborhood featured in the Real Actresses video. She has also continued charity work sponsoring children in Africa, a cause she has supported alongside her business.
