Koo Kyo Hwan and Han Ji Min are teaming up for the first time on screen as a married couple on the brink of divorce in the disaster escape comedy “Typhoon” (working title). The full cast also includes Oh Jung Se, Han Sun Hwa, Kim Eung Soo, Oh Min Ae, Kim Yo Han, and Choi Ji Su, distributor CJ ENM confirmed through Korean outlets on October 14.
The film follows Jin Mo (Koo) and Jae Yi (Han), a couple who have decided to separate but are forced back together when a mega typhoon strikes during a relative’s wedding in Jin Mo’s hometown. What begins as a tense trip home turns into a desperate escape, with marital bickering giving way to unlikely teamwork against the storm.
Koo plays Jin Mo as an ordinary office worker from a small provincial city. Once a promising prospect after graduating from a prestigious university and joining a major company, he has spent years stuck at the assistant manager level. The role marks a more grounded turn for the actor, showing his everyday charm as a realistic husband and father.
Han Ji Min plays his wife Jae Yi, a bold and resourceful woman who was once a recognized talent at a publishing company. After quitting her job to raise her child, she dreams of reinventing herself as a YouTuber, and her stockpile of practical life hacks unexpectedly proves useful when the disaster hits. KBS News described her as the sharp, can-do center of the film’s comedy.
The supporting cast fills out the ensemble with familiar faces. Oh Jung Se plays Sang Hyuk, Jin Mo’s hometown friend and a 119 rescue worker who rushes in to save the couple only to end up stranded alongside them. Han Sun Hwa is Rose, a guesthouse owner who refuses to offer lodging discounts even as the storm closes in while still dreaming of a grand romance. Kim Eung Soo and Oh Min Ae play Hyun Deok and Pil Ja, a couple together for 48 years traveling the country in a camper van. Kim Yo Han and Choi Ji Su appear as Dae Han and Cha Young, an engaged couple convinced their own marriage will be different.
“Typhoon” is written and directed by Lee Jung Ho, whose earlier credits include the thrillers “Broken” (2014) and “The Beast” (2019), a notable genre shift for the filmmaker into comedy. Soompi reported that the film held its script reading in late September and has officially begun shooting in October. The release is scheduled for 2027.
No official statement was available beyond the distributor’s casting announcement.
