Seoul City Rebuts JYP Entertainment Over Scrapped Godeok Headquarters, Denies Blame for Withdrawal cover

Seoul’s city government fired back at JYP Entertainment on October 9, rejecting the company’s account of its scrapped Godeok-dong headquarters and accusing it of shifting blame onto the public sector.

According to MyDaily, the city released an official statement calling it “clearly different from the facts” that the withdrawal has been portrayed as SH Corporation’s unilateral fault.

JYP announced the withdrawal on October 8, saying SH Corporation’s refusal to restore the park across the street left it no choice, and that an up to 18-story commercial development there would threaten its artists’ privacy.

Seoul countered that the rezoning was spelled out in the original land sale contract and was a lawful step to fund school facilities. The change was announced on October 24, 2025, yet JYP raised its first formal objection only on April 16, 2026 — the day after receiving its construction permit.

The city also said a compromise had been on the table — capping the opposite building at five floors — and that JYP asked for more talks on October 13, then unilaterally announced the withdrawal on October 8 and pinned the blame on SH Corporation.

Seoul closed by urging JYP to “stop misleading public opinion and act responsibly.” No response from JYP was reported.
