Riot Games’ virtual group K/DA has ended a six-year hiatus, releasing the official music video for new single “FIRESTARTER” on October 19 (KST). The comeback brings i-dle’s Miyeon and Soyeon back as the singing voices of Ahri and Akali, respectively, picking up where they left off on the group’s 2018 debut.
The music video passed 6 million views within 14 hours of its release, Star News reported, as global fans celebrated the group’s return with the kind of welcome usually reserved for real-world comebacks. The video presents the four members with new visuals and a new style, animated by Fortiche Production — the Paris studio behind K/DA’s breakout “POP/STARS” video and the Emmy-winning animated series Arcane.
Two new collaborators join the lineup this time around: Canadian singer-songwriter Sophie Powers takes on Evelynn, while British singer-songwriter Mimi Webb voices Kai’Sa. The release also follows a brief teaser campaign — K/DA’s official X account sprang back to life on October 14 with the caption “Do we have your attention?” — and a “FIRESTARTER” EP is expected to follow the single.
K/DA is a virtual four-piece built around League of Legends champions Ahri (vocals), Akali (rapper), Evelynn (vocals) and Kai’Sa (vocals, lead dancer and choreography), with each character voiced by a real-life artist. The group debuted at the 2018 League of Legends World Championship finals in Incheon with “POP/STARS” and last released music in 2020, when the EP ALL OUT was led by the title track “MORE.” Miyeon and Soyeon were part of the original 2018 lineup, while artists including Madison Beer and Jaira Burns have lent their voices to Evelynn and Kai’Sa over the years.
With “FIRESTARTER” streaming now and an EP on the way, K/DA looks set to keep the fire going — fans can follow Riot Games Music’s official channels for what comes next.
