Yoon Ji Sung Leads Cast of New Original Musical 'Under Moonbow' Opening December 12 cover

Singer and actor Yoon Ji Sung will headline the cast of the new original musical “Under Moonbow,” which is set to open on December 12, the production announced on October 29.

Yoon Ji Sung will play Choi In Ha, an undercover detective who infiltrates a drug organization, in a quadruple-cast lineup that also features Cha Seo Won, Lee Joo Soon, and Kim Woo Seok in the same role. The casting was revealed by the production on October 29, according to a report by Hankook Ilbo.

“Under Moonbow” is an original musical developed as an intellectual property project by CJ ENM STUDIOS, which is planning a drama and a musical around the same story.

The story centers on a police officer who must become a criminal to carry out his mission and a crime boss who hides his true identity. Choi In Ha goes undercover inside a drug ring, while Gil Mo Hyun, the organization’s boss, reveals a more human side as the two men deceive and suspect each other. As the investigation deepens, conflicting statements and hidden identities drive a story about the line between truth and lies.

The role of Gil Mo Hyun will be played by Lee Si Kang, Kang Chan, Lee Jin Hyuk, and Kim Woo Jin. Ahn Yu Jin and Hong Ryun Hee will play Inspector Baek, the officer who sends In Ha into the operation, while Jo Hyun Woo and Kim Tae Oh take on Lee Chang Hwan, Mo Hyun’s uncle. Kim Byung Young, Seo Ye Joon, Park Hye Won, and Yoo Ji Yoon round out the cast in chorus roles.

Behind the scenes, the musical is directed by Seo Yun Mi, whose credits include “Black Mary Poppins” and “Aesop’s Story,” with music by Park Jae Hyun and Nam Ji Young, music direction by Ha Tae Sung, and choreography by Hong Yu Sun.

The poster released with the announcement sets the mood: a dark alley, red light leaking through a door, and a lone silhouette against a blue-tinged space. Yoon Ji Sung first rose to fame as a member of project group Wanna One and has since built a steady career on the musical stage, including a run in “The Days.”

No venue or ticketing details were included in the announcement. For now, the confirmed cast and the December 12 opening are the clearest picture yet of “Under Moonbow.”
