Actress Kim Hyun-i is fighting a case of mistaken identity with real consequences. The actress revealed that her photos are being spread online as if she were the late action actor of the same name, and that she is now pursuing legal action.
On October 14, Kim wrote on her SNS that her facial photo is being wrongly posted and spread as if it belonged to the deceased person who shares her name. She stressed that she is a completely different person from the deceased and said she is suffering serious harm and mental distress as a result.
Kim added that she has secured all related materials and is requesting takedowns of the posts while moving forward with the necessary legal measures. She also asked the public to remember that she is not the person in the reports, and requested tips if they come across the misused photos.
The confusion followed news that the late action actor Kim Hyun-i died in a traffic accident in August while traveling to a filming location. Tributes to him appeared in recent K-dramas: the first episode of SBS’s “Doctor X: The White Mafia Era” closed with a memorial caption, and tvN’s “100 Days of Lies” honored him at the end of an episode.
With takedown requests filed and legal steps underway, Kim is drawing a clear line between herself and the namesake she never met.
