Breaking: Viral Photo of Kris Wu Looking Heavier in Prison Was AI-Manipulated, Korean Media Reports cover

That viral “recent” photo of Kris Wu looking much heavier behind bars? It’s fake — and it was made with AI.

According to a report from Korean outlet Xports News published on October 11, a photo purporting to show the former EXO member’s latest look in prison spread quickly across China’s Weibo and other social media and online communities, with the singer appearing to have gained significant weight.

But the photo turned out to be an AI-manipulated image. The report says it was altered from footage of a 2015 interview Wu gave to Chinese media, with his body shape digitally changed to make him look heavier.

Wu has been serving a 13-year prison sentence in China since November 2022, when he was convicted of sex crimes committed against multiple minors. The case began in July 2021 after a netizen’s online exposé, and his appeal later upheld the original sentence.

This is not the first fake news about Wu’s life behind bars. Last year, rumors circulated that he had died in prison; Chinese public security authorities called the claims “groundless rumors” and warned against spreading them indiscriminately.

No official comment was given regarding the AI-edited photo itself, but the Korean report confirms the image was doctored. Wu remains in prison in China.
