Lee Jae-wook Makes Surprise Appearance at Busan International Film Festival Amid Military Service cover

Lee Jae-wook is still serving in the military — but that didn’t stop him from lighting up the Busan International Film Festival this week.

The actor made a surprise appearance on stage at the festival’s “Kkul Alba” open talk event on October 8, held at the Rooftop Theater of the Busan Cinema Center, according to Dailyan’s weekly photo gallery column.

The 31st edition of the festival opened with its red carpet on the afternoon of October 6 at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan. Actresses Fan Bingbing, Michelle Yeoh, Kim Min-ha, Jeon Do-yeon, and Jo Yeo-jeong walked the carpet, while Son Suk-ku, Shunsuke Michieda, Hwang Jung-min, Sho Kasamatsu, and Hyun Bin represented the men.

Lee’s unannounced drop-in two days later stood out as the week’s biggest surprise. Currently completing his mandatory military service, the actor met festival filmmakers and audiences on stage — a rare public sighting for a star on active duty.

Described as a world-class film festival, the event drew a star-studded lineup across its red carpet and talk programs this year.

No official statement was available from the actor’s agency about the appearance.

Photos from Lee’s surprise stage moment capped Dailyan’s roundup of the festival week’s most eye-catching scenes.
