BTS RM and Bill Gates Named as Moon Jar Owners on tvN's "Wonderpick" cover

Actor Kim Tae-hoon named two unexpected owners of Korean moon jars on the October 12 episode of tvN’s “Wonderpick” — BTS’s RM and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

According to a TV Report write-up of the broadcast, Kim told fellow guests Lee Seung-yeon and Lee Sang-yeop that RM, described as a well-known art collector, and Gates both own the traditional porcelain pieces. Gates’ moon jar, he added, was purchased by his father during a trip to Korea.

The reveal came as the trio visited a moon jar exhibition, where the three were visibly charmed by the curved silhouettes of Korea’s signature vessels. Lee Seung-yeon said she had received one as a gift and occasionally fills it with wildflowers, while Kim explained that the jars symbolize wishes, abundance, and integrity — tying them to the old Korean tradition of wishing upon the full moon.

Kim also shared background on the craftsmanship, noting that while no concrete Joseon-dynasty record confirms artisans smashed pieces they disliked, the near-total absence of lopsided jars suggests flawed ones were broken and discarded. He added that the royal court once collected moon jars as tribute from across the country, but uneven regional quality and breakage in transit prompted the installation of a dedicated royal kiln in Gwangju, Gyeonggi in the late 15th century — after which moon jars began to be treated as luxury goods.

The episode also featured Lee Sang-yeop picking camping as his autumn wish-list item and announcing fan meetings in Seoul and Japan, for which he said he is currently practicing drums.
