Jung Bo-seok Credits "High Kick Through the Roof" for Extending His Acting Career on "Mr. House Husband" cover

Veteran actor Jung Bo-seok says the classic sitcom “High Kick Through the Roof” is the reason he is still going strong as an actor, revealing that even elementary school students ask him for autographs today.

According to TV Daily, Jung made the remarks as a guest on the October 10 broadcast of KBS 2TV’s “Mr. House Husband Season 2.”

In the studio, MC Eun Ji-won introduced him with the famous old line, “If Hong Kong has Leslie Cheung, Korea has Jung Bo-seok,” while Lee Yo-won marveled at his enduring looks. Jung brushed it off, saying he never thought of himself as handsome — back when manlier features were the trend, his own family nickname was “the ugly one.”

The conversation turned to the sitcom when the cast asked 2006-born guest Lee Hyun whether she knew him. She said she first came to know him through “High Kick Through the Roof.” Jung laughed and thanked the show, saying it is thanks to “High Kick” that he still has vitality as an actor.

He added that kids are still rewatching the sitcom and that he gets plenty of autograph requests from elementary school students whenever he goes out — a sign of a fandom far younger than his 41-year career.

The remarks underline how the 2009-2010 hit keeps giving Jung a new generation of fans, more than 15 years after it aired.
