Kang Seok-woo Appointed as Dongguk University Chair Professor on His 70th Birthday, Announces First Lecture on Chopin cover

Veteran actor Kang Seok-woo is starting a new chapter at a milestone moment — he has been appointed as an endowed chair professor at Dongguk University’s College of Arts, his alma mater, effective October 1, his 70th birthday.

According to Sports Donga, Kang announced the news on his social media. His first special lecture is set for October 15 on ‘Chopin and the History of the European Revolution,’ with a Chopin performance by pianist Kim Jung-won also planned.

Kang entered Dongguk’s Department of Theater and Film as part of the class of 1977 and will serve as chair professor for one year. He has long supported his alma mater as its promotional ambassador and helped build a scholarship fund for younger students.

The news came on the same day his family celebrated the milestone. In a vlog posted to his daughter Kang Da-eun’s YouTube channel, the family gathered at a restaurant for cake and gifts, and Kang marveled: ‘Am I really 70?’ Kang Da-eun admitted she grew emotional: ‘The thought of — when did my dad get this old — made my eyes well up with tears.’

Kang Da-eun also took her parents to a photo studio to capture their present selves, saying she loved preserving a moment that will never come back. She first became known in 2015 through the SBS program ‘Dad, Please Take Care of Me’ with her father, and has since worked as an actress.

The October 15 lecture is only days away.
