Okdal's Kim Yoon-ju Explains Why She and 10CM's Kwon Jung-yeol Chose Not to Have Kids After 12 Years of Marriage cover

Okdal member Kim Yoon-ju has opened up about her 12-year marriage with 10CM’s Kwon Jung-yeol and why the couple never had children.

Appearing on Kakao Bank’s YouTube talk show ‘Donkey Taka’ on October 8, Kim recalled that she dated Kwon Jung-yeol for about two years before marrying him in 2014. She was 31 at the time, and she laughed that she finally understands the saying, “get married when you don’t know much.”

Kim admitted that the couple never seriously thought about having kids either way. “I married at 31 and lived day by day, and before I knew it I was past 40,” she said, adding that financial stability was also on her mind.

But the deciding factor was her husband’s music. Kim revealed she worried that becoming parents could change his songwriting: “He was doing so well, and I thought that if we suddenly had a baby, his songs could shift from love stories to life stories, which might not suit 10CM.” She had already noticed that love-song lyrics can feel ambiguous when a musician is married.

Kim also said the couple has never had a real fight, crediting their similar personalities. Early in their marriage they lived like housemates sharing a house because of busy schedules, and she joked that “if we had a kid, we would have fought 100%.”

No official statement was available beyond the broadcast itself. The episode, titled “Is marriage and childbirth a must or a choice?”, continues to spark conversation among fans online.
