Actor Ong Seong Wu made his first-ever appearance at the Busan International Film Festival this week, walking the red carpet for his upcoming film “Jeonggane.”
According to a report by Sports Kyunghyang, “Jeonggane” was invited to the Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival. Ong attended the festival’s opening ceremony red carpet and joined an open talk and GV session on October 7 to meet audiences.
The film tells the story of two estranged brothers who have not spoken to each other in 30 years but join forces to protect a calf born amid a crisis sweeping their village. Ong plays Kang Jung-hoon, a rookie veterinarian caught between the two brothers.
During the October 7 open talk, Ong described his character as the story’s bridge to the audience. He said Jung-hoon is the only outsider in the film — someone encountering the village and its people for the first time — and hopes viewers will feel something vivid through the character.
He also shared why he was drawn to the script: “I tend to like works that carry a deep scent when I read them, and this one especially smelled of earth and warm affection, so my heart leaned toward it.”
No official statement was available from the film’s distributor regarding the festival response. “Jeonggane,” directed by Kim Ji-hyun and co-starring Ryu Seung-ryong, Park Hae-joon, and Lee Sang-hee, is scheduled to open in theaters on December 2.
With his festival debut now complete, Ong’s screen turn in “Jeonggane” is expected to draw fresh attention to the actor as the film’s release approaches.
