SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi is back with new music — even while serving in the military. The idol released a surprise solo track, “Boyfriend,” on October 10 at 6 p.m. KST across music platforms.
According to a report by Dispatch on Naver, Pledis Entertainment announced the release that day, noting that the song arrived while Hoshi continues his active-duty Army service.
“Boyfriend” is an R&B pop track built around a shuffle rhythm and bright, refreshing synthesizer sounds. Hoshi took part in writing the lyrics, which candidly capture the fluttering, clumsy emotions of a crush. Paired with his signature energetic delivery and direct lyricism, the song was billed as an “aggressive” love song.
The surprise release continues Hoshi’s steady solo output. He debuted as a soloist with the 2021 mixtape “Spider” and has since put out tracks like “Tiger Power.” Even after enlisting, he has kept the music coming, dropping “Take a Shot” on the day he enlisted, followed by “Fallen Superstar” and “Agijagi.”
The release also fits a broader pattern: SEVENTEEN’s members are widening their musical footprint through solo and unit projects while group activities continue. Jeonghan and Joshua, for example, are set to release their first mini album together on October 19.
With Hoshi proving he can keep releasing during service, fans have plenty of reason to stay tuned for whatever surprise comes next.
