Shin Dong-yup has finally set the record straight on a 20-year-old “bruise incident” involving actor Jung Woong-in — and personally handed him the wedding gift money that never reached him two decades ago.
The exchange happened on the October 12 episode of Shin’s YouTube show “Jjan-han Hyung Shin Dong-yup,” where he was joined by film director Jang Jin and Jung Woong-in. According to News1’s report, Shin said something had “weighed on his mind” before delivering the delayed congratulatory money. The three men are the same age and all theater department alumni of Seoul Institute of the Arts, where Jang Jin was Shin’s senior by one year.
Jung, once president of the school’s acrobatic performance club Prana, explained the bruise: when a young Shin joined the dance-and-acrobatics circle, intense split stretches left him with a bruise in his groin area. Jung added that Shin once pulled him into a restroom to show it off, and Shin joked he “should have been shocked at the bruise but was shocked at something else.”
Shin then killed two old rumors: that Jung bullied juniors in college — a story “told for laughs on variety shows that got distorted” — and that Jung forced the bruise on him. As proof of no grudge, Shin said he would never have cast Jung in his project “Three Friends” otherwise.
Jung Woong-in is currently performing in the stage play “The Secret of the Flower,” directed by Jang Jin. A 20-year misunderstanding, buried with a handshake and a late wedding envelope.
