Former BIGBANG member T.O.P has finally bowed to his fans — but for many longtime supporters, the apology came too late and rang hollow.
According to Sports Chosun, his agency Topspot Pictures said on October 10 that it was deeply sorry “to fans who waited” for failing to sufficiently communicate activity news and for “causing disappointment and regret.”
The agency promised to listen more closely to fan feedback, and to review its communication approach — with improvements to be announced through official channels.
The apology landed the same day his oldest fan site, CHOIDOT, announced its closure after running since August 24, 2006. In its farewell notice, the operators accused T.O.P and Topspot of taking fan support while providing no official inquiry channel and leaving practical coordination to volunteers.
The flashpoint was a fan exhibition planned for October 31 to November 1, inspired by his first solo full album, which was cancelled after reservations collapsed. Only about 20 people applied in the first week against a roughly 9-million-won budget, and cancellations poured in after his October 2 confirmation of a relationship with former After School member Nana.
The fan site also rejected the narrative that fans are simply furious about the dating news, saying many had known about the relationship before a YouTube shoot but stayed quiet out of respect for his privacy. Whether the apology can win anyone back remains to be seen — the agency’s promise of better communication will be the first thing fans watch.
