MBC’s ‘Liar’ flipped its central mystery in episode 3 on November 6: Yoo Yeon-Seok’s Min Jun-Ho walked free from the sexual assault allegation that ended the premiere with his arrest, while Seo Hyun-Jin’s Kang Ji-Sun was branded a ‘flower snake’ at her school.
According to TenAsia’s recap, police closed the case without referring it to prosecutors, citing insufficient evidence. A lie detector test had already tilted the balance: it judged Kang Ji-Sun’s account false and Min Jun-Ho’s true. Jun-Ho’s son, Min Hyun-Soo, sided with his father, telling him, ‘Dad did nothing. That woman is the bad one.’
Convinced Jun-Ho drugged her, Ji-Sun slipped into his house with an access card while he was out, searching his room for proof after recalling the statue and the key from their night together. She was nearly caught when he came home — and the bottle she found was insulin, not drugs.
Jun-Ho, puzzled that Ji-Sun could have known about the medicine, told his lawyer friend Choi Chan-Soo, played by Jang In-Seop, ‘How could Teacher Kang know that?’ Choi-Soo suggested fighting back through the press, saying he knows a journalist — a media play that could turn public opinion against Ji-Sun.
The fallout hit Ji-Sun first. Once news reports about Jun-Ho circulated, word that she was the complainant spread through her school, and a student mocked her in class: ‘Teacher, are you a flower snake?’ Panicking, Ji-Sun walked out of the classroom.
Jun-Ho heard the news of the non-referral from Lee Hwa-Young, played by Ok Ja-Yeon, and exhaled, ‘So it’s completely over.’ Asked whether he regretted what happened with Ji-Sun, he replied, ‘I didn’t do anything wrong, so there’s no need to regret.’ He asked Hwa-Young for a drink, saying he did not want to celebrate alone — a moment that hints at a new entanglement.
The reversal lands one week after the October 30 premiere, in which Ji-Sun reported Jun-Ho to police after waking with only a partial memory of their first date, and officers arrested the surgeon at work. The 12-episode thriller reunites Yoo Yeon-Seok and Seo Hyun-Jin nearly a decade after SBS’s ‘Dr. Romantic’ in 2016. Directed by Jo Young-Min and written by Baek Jae-Young, ‘Liar’ airs Fridays and Saturdays at 9:50 p.m. KST on MBC.
With Jun-Ho cleared, Ji-Sun publicly shamed, and a media counterattack in the works, the next episode will test whose version of that night survives.
