2NE1 leader CL is in talks to join The Black Label, the agency founded by producer Teddy, in what would be a high-profile reunion between two of YG Entertainment’s most influential alumni.
The Black Label said on October 28 that it is in discussions with CL over an exclusive contract, according to a report by Sports Chosun published on October 29. No deal has been confirmed, and the report stressed that whether the talks lead to a signed contract remains to be seen.
The news is significant because of the depth of the working relationship behind it. Teddy and CL have worked together since 2009, with Teddy serving as a main producer for 2NE1 and shaping much of the group’s sound during its run as one of K-pop’s defining second-generation girl groups. He also worked on CL’s solo material.
CL has previously spoken warmly about that partnership, describing Teddy in past interviews as a source of inspiration and a steady guiding presence in her career. That history is central to why the reported talks have drawn so much attention: this would not be a new pairing, but a return to a producer who helped define her musical identity.
The report also places CL’s possible move in a wider pattern of YG alumni reconnecting with Teddy. BIGBANG’s Taeyang and BLACKPINK’s Rosé are cited as artists who have worked again with Teddy after their YG years and found renewed musical direction in the process. For CL, who has spent a long period pursuing independent activities, joining a company with a large production team and a global management system would, in the report’s framing, allow her to focus more fully on music.
That framing is worth treating with care. The Black Label has so far confirmed only that talks are under way, not that a contract has been agreed or that any specific project is planned. Fans should therefore read the reunion narrative as a possibility, not a done deal.
Still, the stakes are clear. A CL signing would give The Black Label one of K-pop’s most recognisable solo voices, and it would give CL a structured home for her next chapter after years of steering her own career.
The next step to watch is a formal announcement from either side confirming whether the discussions have produced a contract, and if so, what kind of music or activities would follow.
