Former AKB48 member Mayumi Uchida has announced that she is married, surprising fans with a handwritten letter and no prior dating rumors.
According to the original report, Uchida posted the letter along with a photo of herself smiling in traditional Japanese wedding attire on her account on October 10. She also shared a photo of her and her husband holding hands.
In the letter, Uchida wrote that she has gotten married, expressing heartfelt thanks to everyone who has always supported her and asking them to continue looking after her. She signed the letter with a phrase meaning “I look forward to your continued support” along with her own name. No details about her husband were shared.
Born in Hachioji, Tokyo in 1993, Uchida entered the entertainment industry after passing the second AKB48 research student audition in 2007. She first took the center position for AKB48’s 19th single “Chance no Junban,” released in December 2010, which raised her profile.
After graduating from the group in 2015, Uchida turned to business, opening a yakiniku restaurant in Tokyo’s Shin-Okubo district in April 2014. She later revealed that her parents run a yakiniku restaurant back home, which inspired her choice. She has also stayed active as a novelist and producer, including producing a girl group.
No further details about the wedding or her husband were disclosed. Uchida closed the letter by asking fans to keep supporting her in this new chapter of her life.
