Former BIGBANG member Seungri has legally registered his marriage with his pregnant non-celebrity partner, according to a new report from Ilgan Sports published on October 28.
E Daily, citing Ilgan Sports, reported that the 36-year-old and the woman, said to be in her 20s, are now a married couple on paper after completing their marriage registration. Seungri himself confirmed the registration to the outlet, telling reporters that he is not currently considering a wedding ceremony.
The update adds a concrete legal step to a story that broke earlier this week. On October 26, Gray News reported that Seungri was set to become a father, with his partner due to give birth in January, and that the couple had prepared a newlywed home in Seoul’s Gangnam district and planned to hold a wedding ceremony after the birth. That earlier report, however, did not cover whether the couple had registered their marriage.
Seungri’s latest comment shifts that picture: the marriage is legally registered, but a ceremony is not on the table for now, and no further details were disclosed.
Seungri debuted as a member of BIGBANG in 2006 and went on to become one of the most recognizable faces of second-generation K-pop. His idol career ended in 2019, when he left the group and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry amid the fallout from the so-called Burning Sun scandal.
He was later tried on a total of nine charges, including habitual gambling, prostitution mediation, and embezzlement. South Korea’s Supreme Court confirmed a prison sentence of one year and six months, and Seungri was released in February 2023 after serving his term.
More recently, Seungri has faced a separate legal allegation. He was sued over a special assault charge after allegedly assaulting a man in his 30s while dining together at a restaurant in Seoul’s Gangnam district in August. The complainant claimed he suffered assault and threats from Seungri’s party, while Seungri has denied the allegations.
His lawyer, Yoon Jae-bin of law firm Soorim, said in a statement on October 23 that Seungri picked up a soju bottle but did not swing it at or strike the other man, adding that judgment rests with investigators and the courts and that Seungri will cooperate faithfully.
For now, the marriage registration is the latest confirmed development in Seungri’s personal life, and whether a ceremony follows later remains unanswered.
