Veteran singer Kim Jung-eun, best known as the voice of Marronnier’s 1995 hit “Proposal” (프로포즈), has divorced her husband after more than two decades of marriage, her agency confirmed on October 22.
According to an exclusive report from Star News, the 50-year-old singer finalized her divorce by mutual agreement in April 2026. Kim married fellow musician Choi, two years her senior, in 2004, and the couple had a son in 2011. Custody of their child will go to Kim.
The agency told Star News that the couple ended their marriage of about 20 years due to personality differences, following the court-mandated deliberation period.
In an official statement, the agency said: “We are sorry to greet those who cherish Kim Jung-eun with such unfortunate news. After careful consideration, she concluded her roughly 20-year marriage through a consensual divorce, following the deliberation period set by the court.”
The statement added: “They decided through an amicable agreement to remain on good terms. As for further details, we ask for your understanding that we cannot confirm them as they are private matters, and we politely ask you to refrain from malicious comments and speculative reports.”
A representative also addressed the six-month gap between the divorce and its announcement, saying there was no intention to hide it, and that the time was spent carefully untangling two decades of intertwined personal and professional ties while minimizing hurt for everyone involved.
Kim, who debuted with the mixed project group Marronnier in 1994, plans to resume her music career with a new self-written single, “엄마는 예뻤다” (Mom Was Beautiful), scheduled for release in mid-November.
