Former idol Kang Hyun-soo is trading the stage for a government desk — he has become a civil servant in Boryeong City, South Chungcheong Province.

According to TV Report, the news broke through a TJB News broadcast report. In the footage, Kang appears at an orientation for Boryeong City’s new hires, held at the Boryeong Mud Theme Park, where he takes the stage for the traditional new-recruit talent show.

Kang spent two years promoting as a member of the Korea-Japan boy group NIK. After that, he studied the electrical field and applied for an engineering-track civil service position. The report shows him settling into his new workplace with a satisfied smile.

“They explain everything kindly to me, and it feels like I’ve gained dependable coworkers,” Kang said. “It feels like I’ve stepped inside a fence — I really feel a sense of belonging.”

He has been around the idol scene for years under different names: A.O in LC9 in 2013, D.A in BLK in 2017 where he served as leader, and finally his real name Kang Hyun-soo in NIK in 2021, where he was the main dancer and lead vocal. NIK was his last group before he ended idol activities three years ago.

Netizens cheered the career change, writing “Cheering for your new beginning” and “You’re shining wherever you are,” while hoping he never has to deal with workplace bullying.

Three years after leaving the stage, Kang has found his second act — this time behind a government desk.
