ILLIT's Yunah Addresses Police Uniform Controversy as 'You're Under Arrest' Leads 'BREAK EVEN' cover

ILLIT member Yunah addressed the controversy over the group’s police-inspired stage outfits on October 26, speaking at the showcase for the group’s fifth mini album, ‘BREAK EVEN,’ in Seoul.

According to Xports News, Yunah spoke directly about the outfits during the showcase at the Blue Square Woori WON Banking Hall in Yongsan. The event marked the release day of ‘BREAK EVEN,’ with its title track ‘You’re Under Arrest’ (체포하겠어) arriving the same evening.

The controversy dates back to ILLIT’s encore concerts on October 17 and 18 at Inspire Arena in Incheon, where the group first performed the title track. On the first night, the members wore outfits evoking police uniforms to carry the song’s arrest concept, and some viewers raised concerns about the commercial use of a professional uniform.

Yunah said the group was happy and surprised by the heated attention the first performance received, adding that any attention toward their stage is something to be grateful for. She explained that the music video is built around a black-agent concept, and said the group plans to show a variety of styling across its remaining stages, asking fans for continued attention and love.

The title track itself is an electro-pop song built around a bright whistle sound and an addictive hook. It delivers a blunt warning to someone whose lukewarm attitude caused confusion, with ILLIT refusing to be swept along by past feelings and instead ending the relationship on their own terms.

The comeback is also ILLIT’s first prepared as a four-member lineup. Member Moka remains on hiatus for health reasons, a situation the group has navigated since the summer, while the other four members carry this round of promotions.

The road to ‘BREAK EVEN’ has been deliberately staged. ILLIT surprise-premiered ‘You’re Under Arrest’ during the October 17 and 18 encore concerts, performing sharp choreography built around whistle props, and followed with two music video teasers on October 23 and 25. Pre-release interest was already strong, with the album topping Spotify’s pre-save Top 10 with 500,000 saves ahead of release.

ILLIT debuted in 2024 and rose with hits including ‘Magnetic,’ ‘Do the Dance,’ and ‘It’s Me.’ With ‘BREAK EVEN’ now out, the group moves into full promotions for ‘You’re Under Arrest,’ where the styling choices Yunah previewed will be tested on music show stages in the coming days.
