KBS is going all-in on its next grand sageuk. “Munmu,” a 30-billion-won historical epic, premieres November 14 on KBS2, with just one month to go before viewers get to see it.
According to MHN Sports, the drama spans 600 years of war across the Three Kingdoms era, following leaders of Silla and Goguryeo as they chase a single goal: unification. At its center are the Silla leaders who march toward that ambition, each gambling everything on one victory.
Lee Hyun-wook takes the title role of King Munmu, born Kim Beop-min, the 30th king of Silla. The production describes him as a ruler with cold judgment and burning drive who brings a fierce poise to the battlefield yet knows how to bend when the nation needs it. Raised as the eldest son of King Taejong Muyeol (Kim Chun-chu), he learned statecraft from his father and warfare from his uncle Kim Yu-sin.
On the Goguryeo side stands Jang Hyuk as Yeon Gaesomun, a military ruler surveying his soldiers with chilling authority in the newly released character teaser. Facing off against Tang Emperor Taizong, he declares, “I will tear open the sky of that Tang and extinguish its sun.”
Rounding out the quartet are Kim Kang-woo as Kim Chun-chu, who saves Silla through diplomacy and politics rather than force, and Park Sung-woong as Kim Yu-sin, Silla’s undefeated general who knows no defeat in battle.
“Munmu” airs its first episode on November 14 at Saturday primetime.
