Lee Seung Gi Clarifies 'Gas Money Saving' Remarks, Says 'I Don't Economize That Much' cover

Lee Seung Gi has personally addressed the online chatter about his so-called frugality, telling viewers in a new YouTube video that he doesn’t economize “that much.”

According to MyDaily, the singer-actor raised the topic in “한번 뭉질래요?” (“Want to get together?”), uploaded to his personal channel “이승기2” on October 15. The video shows him chatting with crew members over cup ramen and kimbap, using a wooden chopstick broken on one side.

When a crew member joked, “you save a lot — gas money and chopsticks,” Lee expressed bafflement at how his remarks about gas stations had become news. He explained that since getting married he compares fuel prices, and pushed back on claims that driving to a cheaper station burns more fuel than it saves.

He named the actual stations he uses: one near Sinsa-dong in front of Hannam Bridge, which he described as relatively cheap, and at the farthest, one in Yeoksam-dong. “We can’t explain every little thing, can we?” he added with a wry smile.

The crew then teased him about his tumbler, a return gift from an acquaintance’s child’s first-birthday party. “그 정도로 아끼는 건 아니다. 쓸 때는 엄청 쓴다” (“I don’t economize that much. When I spend, I spend big”), he insisted, joking that at this rate people would accuse him of stealing the tumbler.

Lee married actress Lee Da In in 2023. He has lately been sharing unfiltered offstage moments on his personal channel, communicating directly with fans.
