Ne-Yo turned an ordinary night out in Seoul into an impromptu concert. The pop star made a surprise appearance at a bar in Yongsan, Seoul, grabbing a mic and belting out his hit “So Sick” for stunned patrons.
Videos of the moment spread rapidly across online communities and social media on October 11, per MyDaily’s report. In the clips, Ne-Yo wears a black beanie, sunglasses, and a denim jacket as he sings the nearly 20-year-old ballad, with the room joining in for a sing-along chorus.
The visit is believed to be part of a collaboration with a YouTuber known as JkeyOut, who has around 2.3 million subscribers, though no official statement has confirmed the purpose of Ne-Yo’s trip.
Fans at the scene reportedly sang “Happy Birthday” for the singer, whose birthday falls on October 18, turning the surprise set into an early celebration.
Online reactions ranged from disbelief to nostalgia. “Bro, why is Ne-Yo in Yongsan?” one comment read, while another said, “This is giving me Cyworld vibes,” referencing Korea’s beloved early-2000s social platform.
The surprise comes months after Ne-Yo co-founded Pacific Music Group in March with several music executives. The Hong Kong-headquartered company aims to discover and develop Asian artists for the global market across pop, R&B, hip-hop, and electronic labels, while also helping Western acts enter Asia.
Whether more surprise stops are on his Korea itinerary remains to be seen.
