Oh Sang-uk, South Korea’s fencing star, has revealed that he treats his Asian Games gold medal with surprising casualness — he simply tosses it loose in his bag.
The national team fencer opened up about his medal storage on the October 17 episode of MBC’s variety show ‘Omniscient Interfering View’ (전참시), which followed him through his first day back home after returning from the Asian Games, according to Star News.
The broadcast showed Oh’s notably spare home, furnished mostly with fencing gear. Right after landing, he threw his competition uniform in the washing machine himself and did his laundry like anyone else.
When cast member Hong Hyun-hee spotted the gold medal carelessly tucked into his bag and asked whether he even owned a case for it, Oh answered honestly: “I do have a case. But rolling it up and putting it in takes too long.”
The same episode also caught Oh’s unusual ramen habit — he mixes four packs of instant ramen at once, a combination he says tastes like the cheese ramen served at Korean snack bars.
The laid-back champion has quietly become a fan favorite off the piste; viewers will be watching what he reveals next on the show.
