Veteran actress Park Joon Geum is shutting down fake news. Appearing on the October 14 episode of MBC’s “Radio Star,” she will directly address long-circulating rumors that she slapped a director’s cheek as a rookie and was slapped with an appearance ban.
According to MyDaily, Park appears in the “master of self-management” special alongside Kim Young Chul, Ham Eun Jung, and Kang Kyun Sung. The episode airs at 10:30 p.m. KST on October 14.
The rumor, which Park calls absurd, claimed she clashed with a director early in her career, slapped his cheek, and was consequently suspended from acting work. Park explains that the truth is far less dramatic: she had simply voiced her opinion about the director’s attitude at the time, and the anecdote was sensationalized beyond recognition. “It’s different from the facts,” she says on the show.
She backs her philosophy up with a memorable line: “There may be people who suddenly become rich, but there’s no such thing as suddenly becoming stylish.”
Ham Eun Jung, who once played Park’s on-screen daughter, comes to her defense. She recalls hearing Park was intimidating before filming, only to discover she was actually sweet and girlish — the kind of senior who eased tension on set and looked after nervous rookie actors.
Known as the “Jennie of her sixties,” Park also shares her self-management secrets: she keeps her weight at 43 kg and a size 33 through immediate diet control rather than exercise. No official statement was issued beyond the broadcast.
