Ryu Hye Young has firmly shut down dating rumors with her close friend Ko Kyung Pyo, saying a real-life romance between them “will absolutely never happen.”
In part three of a Sports Chosun interview published on October 14, the actress addressed the speculation head-on. The interview was part of promotions for her new horror film “Killing Time,” directed by Jang Joon Yeop, in which she plays Yeon Woo, a streamer who loses everything after a teammate’s death and returns in front of the camera.
Ryu recently appeared on Shin Dong Yup’s YouTube channel “Jjanhanhyung,” where she spoke about her friendship with Ko Kyung Pyo. The two played a couple in tvN’s “Reply 1988” and have stayed close ever since. Their easy chemistry sparked over-immersion among fans, and dating rumors soon followed.
“Reading the comments was actually a learning experience,” Ryu said. “It made me realize that not everyone thinks about male-female relationships the way I do.” On a real romance, she drew a firm line: “Many people said, at this rate, I might be sending out wedding invitations in a few years. They said it’s impossible unless one side doesn’t like the other — but it will absolutely never happen.”
She also discussed preparing for “Killing Time“‘s action scenes: after a 15-second take left her needing 15 minutes of rest, she urgently took up slow running and now runs five to six times a week, after refusing to run for four years.
