Seo Ye-Ji has been confirmed for a new Korean occult horror film, taking the lead role in “Geumwoldo.” Her agency, Bwave Entertainment, announced the casting on November 4, saying Seo will play Kim Ji-Hoo in the film.
Kim Ji-Hoo is a woman who travels to the island of Geumwoldo after receiving a message from her mother. Once there, she is drawn into a series of mysterious events, setting up the film’s central mystery.
“Geumwoldo” is built around a distinctly Korean take on the vampire story. According to ET News, the film takes its motif from records of cannibalism found in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, and sets its story on a remote island with a closed-off community. The combination of a historical-record inspiration and an isolated setting gives the project a different starting point from a standard vampire tale, grounding its horror in a specifically Korean backdrop rather than imported folklore.
The film will be directed by Baek Dong-Hoon, the director behind “Le Grand Chef: Kimchi War.” Production is scheduled to begin filming in mid-November, with a release targeted for 2027. No further casting details were included in the announcement report.
The role continues a deliberately varied run for Seo, who has moved between film and television throughout her career and recently challenged herself on stage in a play. Taking on a genre lead in an occult horror film marks another shift: where her recent stage work tested her in live theatre, “Geumwoldo” asks her to carry a mystery-driven horror story as its central figure, with the island itself functioning almost as a second character.
That genre turn is also what makes the casting newsworthy beyond a routine announcement. A project that pairs a well-known lead with a premise drawn from the Joseon Annals, rather than a generic horror setup, is positioned to draw attention well before cameras roll. For Seo, the film offers a chance to anchor a horror feature built around mystery and atmosphere.
With filming set to begin in mid-November, “Geumwoldo” is now moving from announcement to production, and further details on its cast and story are expected to follow as the shoot gets under way.
