Son Hyun-joo is already stealing the show in SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama “Doctor X”, anchoring the first two episodes with a performance that never needs to raise its voice.
According to Sports Kyunghyang’s report on the October 9-10 premiere weekend, Son plays Boo Seung-kwon, the new president of Kuseo University Hospital. From his first scene, he stands apart from the medical power players around him, showing open discomfort with those who put profit and influence ahead of patients.
Boo Seung-kwon takes the presidency after hospital director Kim Myung-seop’s surgical accident, showing cool judgment and a meticulous touch. But his true motives are hard to read: he accepts genius surgeon Kye Soo-jung (Kim Ji-won) while already calculating the fallout she will bring, once calling her “a tail that can just be cut off.”
In episode 2, chairman Park Kwang-chul’s high-stakes surgery, backed by a massive donation, tests him further. When a crisis strikes mid-operation, he orders the team not to give up and deploys Kye Soo-jung, only to coldly instruct that her involvement be hidden. To Do Yoon-sik (Kim Young-min), who tried to walk away, he delivers the stinging line: “You’ve already left the operating room.”
Son plays him with restrained expressions and a low voice — warm and reasonable on the surface, ice-cold at decisive moments. His standoff with Kye Soo-jung, who fires back “It seems you’ve already failed, director,” is now the drama’s newest watch point. “Doctor X” airs Fridays and Saturdays at 9:50 PM on SBS.
