A2O LITE’s official name is being spelled wrong by the vast majority of Korean fans, according to new data obtained by TenAsia. The rookie girl group associated with Lee Soo-man is officially called “A2O” — short for “Alpha to Omega” — but the trailing letter O is widely read as the number zero, turning it into “A20.”
The mix-up is massive. According to data reviewed by TenAsia on October 21, 75 percent of Naver searches and 78 percent of YouTube searches for the group use the wrong spelling “A20,” meaning only three in ten people search the correct name.
Google Trends tells the same story. On October 15 — the day A2O LITE topped Melon’s TOP100 just 29 hours after their October 13 debut — the domestic search index for “A20” hit a perfect 100, while the correct “A2O” scored only 53. Worldwide, the gap was 100 to 74.
A2O Entertainment is reportedly weighing how to teach the public the correct name. The outlet also noted the irony: the rampant misspelling undercuts speculation that the company engineered a viral marketing campaign — no company would try to go viral with the wrong name, suggesting the buzz is genuine word of mouth.
