Former fromis_9 member Roh Ji-sun has opened up about her difficult idol years, saying she was consumed for her looks in ways that left her deeply upset.
She appeared in a video published October 11 on the YouTube channel of Min Sae-rom, titled ‘Don’t get a card loan! Bloody advice from a senior who switched careers from idol.’ According to the MHN Sports report, Roh said her view of how idols should be consumed differed greatly from how people actually consumed her — the artists she admired were loved for their composing skills and work, while the comments she received were only about her looks and figure.
Most strikingly, she confessed that when performing on stage she enhanced her chest to fit the imposed image. “This kind of consumption was not honorable, and I was too upset,” she said, adding it was part of why she left the industry. As part of a team, she could not decide anything alone, so she suppressed her own individuality.
Roh also revisited the Mnet ‘Idol School’ vote-rigging controversy. She had won first place on the 2017 program and debuted with fromis_9 the following year. “I really thought I became first through my own hard work, and then it turned out that wasn’t the case. I was so confused,” she recalled.
She left fromis_9 in 2024 when her exclusive contract ended. No official statement was available. She is now active as a beauty creator and brand planner.
