Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin made a rare joint public appearance on November 3, reuniting as a couple at the Blue Dragon Film Awards handprinting event in Seoul, one year after their historic back-to-back acting wins at the same awards.

The ceremony was held in the afternoon at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. It brought together the winners of the 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards, held in November 2025, to leave their handprints ahead of the 47th ceremony. Alongside Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, the attendees were Lee Sung-min, Park Ji-hyun, Ahn Bo-hyun and Kim Do-yeon, according to TenAsia and Sports Chosun reports from the event.

Hyun Bin won Best Actor at the 46th ceremony for his portrayal of independence activist Ahn Jung-geun in “Harbin,” directed by Woo Min-ho. Son Ye-jin won Best Actress for Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice,” in which she plays Miri, a wife fighting to protect her family’s everyday life after her husband loses his job. Their wins made them the first married couple to take the top acting prizes at the Blue Dragon Film Awards in the same year, a record the couple returned to again and again during the handprinting event.

Son Ye-jin said winning alongside her husband felt like a blessing for the whole family. “Sharing the award with my husband is an even greater honor, and it is a joyous occasion for our family,” she said, adding that she wondered whether such a moment could ever happen again. She recalled that the couple celebrated quietly the day after the ceremony, embracing and congratulating each other after spending the awards night apart with their respective film teams.

Hyun Bin said the handprinting event brought the emotions of awards night rushing back. “Coming here today, I suddenly realized that a year has passed,” he said. “The memories of that moment are vivid. I am feeling a lot of excitement and good vibes for the first time in a long while.” He also reflected on the weight of playing Ahn Jung-geun, saying the shoot was difficult because he kept thinking about what it meant for someone so young to devote himself to his country, and that the final scene, in which his character faces execution, stayed with him long after filming ended.

For Son Ye-jin, the second Blue Dragon Best Actress trophy closed a circle that began early in her career. She said that when she debuted, she had two dreams: to reach a point where she no longer had to audition, and to win Best Actress at the Blue Dragon Film Awards. She achieved the second dream in 2007, she said, and then waited almost 20 years before winning it again. “It felt like a dream,” she said of the second win. She added that winning only made her hungrier, saying she would like to win again sooner rather than waiting another 20 years.

The couple also spoke playfully about working together again. Hyun Bin mentioned the idea of a project along the lines of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” while Son Ye-jin joked that she would like to make something even more realistic: a film about a married couple fighting fiercely, almost like a documentary. The remarks drew laughter at the event, but neither actor announced a joint project, and no official casting has been confirmed.

Lee Sung-min, who won Best Supporting Actor for “No Other Choice,” said the handprinting marked his first Blue Dragon trophy, and that he felt fortunate because such opportunities do not come often. He also used the moment to apologize to fellow actor Park Hee-soon, whom he said he had forgotten to mention in his acceptance speech last year, joking that Park had since told him to stop mentioning him.

Park Ji-hyun, who won Best Supporting Actress for “Hidden Face,” said leaving her handprint finally made last year’s win feel real, and that it was meaningful to leave her name and hand in the history of Korean cinema. Ahn Bo-hyun, who won Best New Actor for “The Devil Has Moved In,” recalled being so nervous at his unexpected win that he could barely watch the moment back, and said the award pushed him to keep challenging himself. Kim Do-yeon, who won Best New Actress for “Amoeba Girls and School Ghost Stories: School Anniversary,” said the Blue Dragon Film Awards marked the start of her life as an actor, after beginning her career as an idol, and that winning there felt like her first recognition as an actress.

The handprinting tradition is part of the build-up to the next Blue Dragon Film Awards, and this year’s ceremony carries extra resonance for the couple at its center. Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin first starred together in the hit romance drama “Crash Landing on You,” married in March 2022, and welcomed their son later that same year. They have since become one of Korean entertainment’s most closely watched real-life couples, precisely because joint public appearances like this one are rare. Seeing them stand side by side, handprints preserved in the same ceremony, gave the event a symbolic weight beyond a routine photo opportunity.

The 47th Blue Dragon Film Awards will be held at KBS Hall in Yeouido on November 25, according to Sports Chosun. That ceremony will decide this year’s winners, while the November 3 handprinting served as a reminder of last year’s honorees and the standard the new nominees will be measured against. For Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, the day was less about looking back than about marking how far they have come: from co-stars, to spouses, to the first couple to hold the Blue Dragon’s top acting prizes together.
