Three of K-pop’s biggest fourth-generation acts are releasing new music on the same day. IVE, RIIZE and ILLIT all drop new material on October 26, turning an ordinary Monday into a three-way chart showdown that has fans — and the Korean music press — watching the same scoreboard.
According to Spotv News, the three groups arrive with very different weapons. IVE brings blockbuster-scale pop confidence, RIIZE brings a stripped-back vocal showcase, and ILLIT brings the trendy, self-assured energy that has defined the group since its debut. Each act has a real shot at the top of the charts, which is exactly why the shared release date matters so much.
IVE leads the charge with the new album “Looks Can Kill,” built around the “Girl Hero” concept. The record carries a message that anyone can be the hero of their own life, and its title track channels the confidence and self-possession that have become IVE’s signature. The group has already teased the era with the pre-released tracks “Cupid” and “Magic Girl,” building anticipation for the full album.
This is IVE’s first new release in about eight months, following the second full album “REVIVE+” in February. That album’s double title track “BANG BANG” swept Korea’s major music charts with a perfect all-kill, so the question hanging over “Looks Can Kill” is whether IVE can repeat that kind of domestic dominance. The early signs are encouraging: the title track’s music video, pre-released on October 19, climbed to No. 1 on YouTube’s global music video trending chart.
RIIZE takes a deliberately different route with the new digital single “Insomnia.” Where the group is known for hip-hop-driven performance tracks and powerful stages, this is an acoustic pop song that puts the six members’ vocals front and center. Soompi describes it as a track with an air of melancholy, its lyrics tracing the complicated emotions stirred by thoughts of someone that grow more vivid as the night deepens, delivered through calm yet plaintive vocals.
The single also serves as a bridge to something bigger. RIIZE has already announced that a second full-length album, “EMOTIION,” will follow in spring 2027, making “Insomnia” the opening move of a longer campaign. The group arrives in strong commercial form: its second mini album, released in June, became the group’s fourth consecutive million-seller, a run few fourth-generation boy groups can match.
ILLIT completes the trio with its fifth mini album “BREAK EVEN,” led by the title track “You’re Under Arrest.” The four-track record also includes “Super in Love,” “More” and “Pop,” and leans into the group’s trademark mix of honesty and boldness, this time with a more self-assured take on love. The group previewed the title track’s hard-hitting, whistle-driven choreography at its “PRESS START” encore concerts in Incheon on October 17 and 18, giving fans a first taste of the comeback more than a week early.
ILLIT’s rise since its March 2024 debut has been one of the fastest in recent K-pop memory. The group built its identity through a run of hits including “Magnetic” and “NOT CUTE ANYMORE,” and its previous single “It’s Me” won over domestic charts with its addictive hooks. “BREAK EVEN” is the group’s chance to prove that run is still accelerating rather than leveling off.
The shared release date also sets up a direct comparison that the groups would normally avoid. IVE is the established chart powerhouse chasing another perfect all-kill, RIIZE is testing whether a quieter, vocal-led sound can hold its own against two big girl group comebacks, and ILLIT is fighting to turn a red-hot debut era into lasting chart staying power. All three release on October 26, meaning the first chart updates will land within hours of each other.
October has already been a crowded month for comebacks, but few days in the K-pop calendar carry this much concentrated firepower. Whether one act pulls away early or the three split the charts across different platforms — domestic streaming, YouTube and physical sales — will set the tone for the rest of the fall season. For now, all eyes are on October 26, and on a chart race with no obvious favorite.
