Speculation about JYP Entertainment’s next girl group is gaining traction after a JYP-affiliated X account for “oftheblue” (OBLU) came to fans’ attention, following trademark filings for the name in October. The account was opened in September but only gained its JYP affiliation recently, and other potential accounts under the same name have also been spotted.
The trail began with the trademarks. Filings for OBLU and OFTHEBLUE were made in October, and Korean online communities picked up the story that month, with one post claiming the trademark registration was complete and that JYP was planning a new rookie girl group for next year. Fans read the account’s JYP Nation affiliation as a sign the project sits with JYP Entertainment itself, rather than a subsidiary.
That distinction matters because a similarly named group already exists. JYP subsidiary INNIT Entertainment debuted OURBIRTHDAY, often shortened to OBD, in August 2026. Commenters were quick to separate the two projects, noting OBD does not carry the same JYP Nation affiliation, and concluding OBLU is assumed to be a JYPE project. That reading remains fan interpretation, not a company announcement.
Fan reaction has focused first on the name. “Oh, that’s a really pretty group name!!” one commenter wrote, while others debated what concept might fit it, with several hoping JYP would try an elegant concept and wondering whether the group would go down a cute route instead. No members, lineup size, or musical direction has been revealed.
The buzz fits a familiar pattern for JYP, whose main-label girl group lineage runs through TWICE and ITZY to NMIXX, the seven-member group that debuted in February 2022 after being introduced as JYPn. NMIXX was the company’s first new girl group since ITZY’s debut in 2019, which is one reason any sign of a successor draws immediate attention, even when it is only a trademark filing.
For now, the important caveat is that none of this is confirmed. No official statement was available, and JYP Entertainment has not announced a group called Oftheblue, confirmed its members, or given a debut date. A trademark filing and an affiliated account can be preparatory steps, but on their own they do not prove a debut is coming. Until the company speaks, Oftheblue remains a rumored name to watch, not an announced group.
