tvN has unveiled the first teaser for its upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama “Gift,” giving viewers their first look at Kim Woo-bin as a baseball coach with an extraordinary eye for talent. The teaser was released on October 30, ahead of the drama’s premiere on December 5 at 9:10 p.m., according to a report from MyDaily carried by Naver.
In the teaser, Kim Woo-bin plays Jung Min-yong, a former professional baseball pitcher coach whose life changes after an unexpected accident. The accident leaves him with a special ability: he can see a player’s innate baseball talent and growth potential in a single second. “Now I can see it all, that answer,” he says, a line that sets up the drama’s central premise.
The teaser follows Jung Min-yong as he takes charge of Deokcheon High School’s baseball team, described as the worst team in the country. His new ability lets him judge not only a player’s talent and skill, but also the answers needed to win a game. “The Jung Min-yong you knew is dead, and now I’m going to live properly,” he declares, signalling a fresh start for a character determined to turn his own life around as well as his team’s fortunes.
“Gift” is a growth sports drama built around the tension between talent and effort. It follows a coach who can instantly read potential as he tries to change a last-place high school team, and it asks what happens when raw ability meets the work required to fulfil it. The series is based on a popular Kakao Webtoon of the same name.
The role marks Kim Woo-bin’s return to viewers about a year after his last series, Netflix’s “Genie, Make a Wish,” in which he played a playful genie. The contrast is clear: where that character relied on charm, Jung Min-yong is grounded and driven, a coach whose authority comes from what he can see in others.
His wife, Shin Min-ah, is also due back soon in the Disney+ series “Remarried Empress,” releasing November 4.
The question left by the teaser is how far his gift can take a team starting from the bottom. The first answer comes December 5.
