Lee Jihye Clarifies Seongsimdang Cake Sweeping Controversy After Buying Seven Cakes in Daejeon cover

Singer and TV personality Lee Jihye has broken her silence on the viral “cake sweeping” controversy, insisting that the seven cakes from Daejeon’s famous Seongsimdang bakery were bought by several people, not by her alone.

According to Sports DongA, Lee addressed the backlash in a video released on October 22 on her YouTube channel ‘밉지않은 관종언니’, titled as a full clarification of the so-called “Daejeon Seongsimdang sweeping incident,” with the protest “억울합니다” (“It’s unfair”) front and center.

The video documents a Daejeon bakery tour Lee took with her husband Moon Jae-wan and a professional guide. Seongsimdang was the final stop, where Lee ordered several products including a melon-filled cake. When the pile of cakes grew larger than expected, she said on camera, “I only bought one cake, but it looks like too many.”

She then explained to her companions that the count came from the whole group: “There are so many of us right now. If the two of us buy three and each of you buys one, that’s seven.” In other words, no single person hoarded stock — the seven cakes were individual purchases pooled together, with the couple taking three and each companion taking one.

Lee wrapped up the tour at the Seongsimdang main branch, where she received a “bakery tour certificate” from the guide and joked that it felt like an accomplishment. She has not issued any separate agency statement — the video is her response, and whether viewers accept her math remains to be seen.
