Actress Seo Hyun Jin is mourning the loss of her father, just eight days before her new MBC drama “Liar” premieres.
According to a JTBC report on October 22, Seo recently lost her father. Her agency, Management SOOP, confirmed the news to multiple Korean outlets, telling OSEN: “Seo Hyun Jin has recently lost her father,” and adding that she is “currently preparing the funeral” with her family.
The agency said a memorial altar has not yet been set up, and that Seo is currently with her family as they arrange the funeral. No further details about the cause of death were disclosed.
The timing makes the loss especially poignant: Seo is set to return to the small screen on October 30 as the female lead of MBC’s Friday-Saturday psychological thriller “Liar,” opposite Yoo Yeon Seok. In the drama, she plays Kang Ji Sun, whose account of a single memory clashes completely with that of Yoo’s character. It remains unclear whether the funeral will affect her promotional schedule for the premiere.
Seo debuted in 2001 as a member of the girl group M.I.L.K. before transitioning to acting. She rose to leading-actress status with “Another Oh Hae-young” (2016) and “Dr. Romantic,” followed by “Temperature of Love,” “The Beauty Inside,” “Why Her,” and the Netflix series “The Trunk.”
